Poltrona Frau is an Italian company established in 1912 by Renzo Frau, who wanted to make the best quality hand crafted furniture. His early designs were inspired by the French art deco style and the classics of the Victorian era. During that period the company received numerous prestigious orders, including from the British Royal Family. Today, the company makes its furniture based on advanced technologies and the experience of multiple generations. Many models created by famous designers, including Renzo Frau himself, are now considered design classics.
Poltrona Frau is especially famous for its incredibly elegant furniture, finished with the great quality, patented “Pelle Frau” leather. The leather is the effect of several years of research and experimentation – after 21 stages of tanning, it keeps its softness, while maintaining durability required for contract interiors. The quality of the “Pelle Frau” leather was recognised also in the luxury car industry – Ferrari and Maserati used it to make their chairs.
