Vitra is an undeniable icon of design, offering both classic and modern furniture created by the best designers in accordance with the highest quality and workmanship standards. Innovation in creating products and solutions for homes, offices and public spaces is ingrained in the Swiss brand’s DNA. Its classic products made Vitra the symbol of the best design of the 20th century. Today, the brand combines technological expertise with the creativity of modern designers.
History
Vitra was established in 1950 in Switzerland, but its history really began when, during a visit in the US, its founder – Willi Fehlbaum – saw a chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in a shop window. He then met the designer couple in person, and their friendship, which started on that day, changed the face of Vitra, giving birth to the creative dialogue between the brand and the famous creators which continues to this day. One of the effects of this dialogue is Vitra Campus, the company’s seat in Weil am Rhein, with its spectacular buildings by such designers as Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid and Tadao Ando. Vitra is a family business, now managed by the third generation.
Designers
Vitra worked with the best of the best: Verner Panton, George Nelson, Jean Prouvé, Frank Gehry, Jasper Morrison, Charles and Ray Eames, Ron Arad, Alberto Meda, and the Bouroullec brothers. Many of the brand’s products, such as the famous Panton Chair, or the Aluminium Chair designed by the Eameses, are considered design icons of the 20th century.
Vitra for offices
Vitra learnt in innumerable projects how to enhance the efficiency and performance in an office. This process includes various phases in which Vitra works together with a good team of experienced specialists: with consultants, interior designers, light and acoustic planners, designers and office planners.
