During the recent celebrations of Actiu’s 50 year anniversary much was said about the right balance of modern business. What could be the role of design and space? In case of the company owned by the Berbegal family, those elements are: culture, tradition, local production, reliance on the local region, innovative technologies and thoughtful leadership. Importantly, traditional values are by no means in conflict with modernity. On the contrary, when properly mixed, they can be an answer to challenges facing the furniture business in a fast changing world. The “Local business with a global vision” seems to best summarize the Berbegal family’s take on the furniture business.
As the world’s pace grows, ever more important is a return to simple, sometimes even obvious solutions. Similar conclusions are reached as a result of Actiu’s observations within the frame of Cool Working programme. It turns out that for young people entering the job market, the mere fact of having a job is not sufficient. It’s also important for a work space to be comfortable and adhering to certain values. What really motivates people, is an urge to be a part of a greater whole, that what they do makes sense. It’s perfect if additionally it’s in keeping with their own dreams, a sense of individuality.
