Saying that Catellani & Smith, founded in 1989, manufactures lamps is like saying nothing at all. A more accurate description would be “lighting creations”. Those objects are full of poetry, serve a practical purpose and distinguish themselves through their “handiwork” quality. Each model reflects the artistic personality of the company founder., Enzo Catellani whose way thinking walks a fine line between craft, art and technology.
When Catellani designs, light plays the starring role – the fitting is only a tool. he sees a momentary glimmer and thinks how to frame it in the fitting. As a result, a random spectacle becomes repetitive and available for others. Catellani & Smith lighting tells the story of light itself, the idea of it. – We don’t want to follow the trends. We’re driven by passion and curiosity, which pushes us to experiment with light. We constantly learn and discover new ways of harnessing this unpredictable “material”. – tells the designer.
The company’s headquarters is located in an old mill with a view to the hills, a few kilometres from Bergamo, by the river Serio. – If you want to create beautiful things, you need to do it in a beautiful place – says Enzo Catellani.
