Plakat zapowiadający koncert Ośrodka Gardzienice w Bibliotece Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego

Together with The Gardzienice Centre for Theatre Practices and Warsaw University Library we invite you to a concert “Music of ancient Greece with oration by Włodzimierz Staniewski”, which will take part on July 4 at 21:30 in Warsaw University Library. We are honoured to be a partner of the event.

Gardzienice theatre group was founded in 1977 by a theatre director Włodzimierz Staniewski. The name stems from a village where the theatre is based. The group is classified as experimental anthropological theatre and gained international fame. Its activity is based on a notion of ecology of theatre, which postulates staging theatre in natural surroundings.

– Concert of Ancient Music “Gardzienice” is a result of proficiency and arduous work. It resembles collecting fragments of a beautiful, ancient vase which fell on a marble floor and burst apart – say the artists about tomorrow’s concert – By means of collecting them together we create new, contemporary sound which allows the ancient fragments to touch the ears and souls of contemporary listeners.

The programme includes:Tripoda manteion hos heiles (gr. Thus you have attained a bard’s tripod), Met emoi (gr. Neither me), Hoson zes (gr. As long as you live), Katolophyromai (gr. I mourn), I  Delphic Pean, Euoi Bakchai (gr. Euoi Bacchantes) and music from plays Ifigenia in A Pythian Oratorium. The concert will be enriched by Orations by Włodzimierz Staniewski about ancient music and ecology of theatre.

Entrance is free, after showing a pass. If you are interested in participating, please send us an -mail: RobertWiktor.Pelka@marro.com.pl. See you tomorrow in Powiśle!
