XVI Conservator-Architectural Conference “Re-composition. A chance for contemporary cities. Architecture, Ecology, Revitalization” has taken place in SARP headquarters in Warsaw. It included presentations on many exceptional commercial and public investments.
Muuto was one of the partners of the Conference and provided furniture – its new collection presented for the first time during Orgatec fair in Cologne in October 2024. Michał Gorczyca from Muuto gave an interesting speech titled “Neuroesthetics. Creating intentional spaces”.
Neuroesthetics is a science which describes interaction between our brain and esthetical experiences. In other words, Neuroesthetics tries to explain why certain works of art, objects or spaces cause emotions and reactions. Muuto is one of the pioneers with respect to using the principles of Neuroesthetics and design. The company believes that design shouldn’t merely look good, it should also improve our mood. Muuto strives to achieve this goal by means of adhering to five key principles of Neuroesthetics:
- Form: Muuto prefers simple, organic shapes which are easily digestible by our brain and create a feeling of peace.
- Touch: Selecting materials such as soft fabrics, natural wood or smooth leather stimulates the sense of touch and gives a pleasurable feeling.
- Light: Careful selection of both natural and artificial lighting can create a suitable atmosphere and positively influence our mood.
- Nature: Introducing natural elements such as wood, plants or nature-inspired colours makes us more relaxed and connected to nature.
- Colour: Colour palette of Muuto products is carefully created so that it causes desirable emotions and positively influences our mood.
Muuto closely cooperates with distinguished neuroesthetics experts, such as Susan Magsamen from Johns Hopkins University and Ivy Ross from Google.
Thanks to adhering to the principles of neuroesthetics we can create spaces which are conducive to relaxation, efficient work and creativity. By means of understanding the mechanisms which govern how we react to design, we can create more harmonious and satisfying environments. Muuto is an excellentexample of a brand which successfully employs the principles of neuroesthetics, creating products and spaces which are not only beautiful, but also positively influence our mood.
